I have been trying out different graphic cards through my local retailer by taking advantage of their 30 day return policy since March of 2014. I have tried a Nividia reference GTX 770, PNY 780, ASUS CUII 780Ti & an EVGA SC ATX 780 Ti; as well as, the ASUS CUII R290. I now have decided on keeping the MSI Lightning that just came in from Amazon (the ASUS CUII R290 impressed me so much I'm sure the Lightning is a keeper) but I am a bit concerned about a couple details. The first one is regarding drivers. I went through step by step removing Nvidia drivers and software before installing the ASUS CUII R290. Do I need to do anything special to install the MSI R290X? The second is in regard to my
PSU. It is 1.5 years old. I have an RM850 sitting on my shelf but really should return it to get my money. If its necessary, I can install it and sell mine. Any advice you can give me regarding my questions OR my configuration before I install the MSI is much appreciated.
MB - ASUS P8Z77-V Pro
CPU - i5 3570K (H110 cooler)
RAM - 2x8 Coirsair XMS3
PSU - HX650
2- ASUS 23" IPS (VS23H-P)
1- ViewSonic 23" V3D231
configured in an Eyefinity Group

Solution
taking advantage like that is not a very good thing to do, stores do not like it.

Both PSU's are fine, the HX 650 and RM 850 will both run great, no matter the age.

No special driver needed, just CCC and if you want the OC software included.

I too, thought exactly as you; therefore I was completey up front with the floor manager. My local Frys rarely has "new" cards to choose from. Within a couple of weeks the majority of the upper end graphics cards have an "open box" sticker and a 5% reduction in price. All of the cards I tested were labeled "open box"

thanks for your answer
