the older systems that used ddr2 really didn't have all that great of processors by today's processors for windows 7 or 8. If you are going to play any games while also using stuff like chrome, firefox etc... just use the 8 gig kit. if you don't plan on doing anything special just use the 4 gig kit until you replace your motherboard. I really never have noticed any of my older systems really ever going any faster with 800 vs 667 but your choice.

RAM speed = not important.

RAM speed will give you very little performance benefits, but anything over 4-6GB would be overkill.

800MHz ram would be better than 667 but only by a little bit, but sometimes you might need a bit of headroom so 8GB would be better than 4GB.

If you dont multitask much or use a lower end CPU (dual core or something like that), get the 4GB 800MHz RAM. This will let you run less programs but at higher speeds.

If you multi task alot or use a higher end CPU, run multiple programs / games and internet explorer tabs, 8GB is the way to go. It will give you lots of headroom, since when you multitask alot, your programs fill up the RAM and when you run out it can be very slow so more RAM is better in that case.

There is not much point in getting over 4GB of ram for a low end processor. They wouldnt be able to handle so many programs at once
