occasional loud beeping when turning on PC

Hi,
Firstly, I dont know if this is the correct section, so feel free to move it....

so, this morning, when turning on my computer, there were increasingly louder beeps coming from my machine. Normally, there is just one beep, but today there were lots almost like:
beep, beep, beep,beep,beep, BEEP,BEEP,BEEP.
then it closed down. The screen was blank the whole time.
when I turned it back on up came a screen saying "UEFI dual bios" (this does not usually show, even the bios is a different type of screen) it then restarted, and booted normally.

A similar kind of beeping has occurred before, however the system still booted into windows as usual, and I had inadvertently turned on the alert for a failed system fan - I don't appear to have a system fan. so once this had been turned off, all was well.

is this a similar fix to before, or is there a more serious problem here
note: I have checked, and all alerts have been turned off.

Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670
Operating System: windows 8.1 64 bit
Motherboard: Gigabyte H87M-HD3
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1660mhz (2x4GB)
Graphics card: Palit GeForce GTX 750 StormX OC 1GB
Monitors: LG 21.5" 22EN33S-B LED (1080p and D-SUB only)
PSU: 500W PSU (generic)

Also, I dont know if this is important, but yesterday we did have a powercut, so the computer did crash, but it did turn back on normally afterwards.

Solution
depends on air flow and filters in the case... if you have a slightly positive pressure in the case with good filters you can go 6-8 months without cleaning although the filters will need cleaning every 2-3 months.

if you have a negative pressure you will need to clean slightly more regularly as air will also get sucked in via the creases folds and vents which will negate the filters some what. if you have no filters then you will need to clean all the fan blades every 2-3 months to reduce air resistance that will slow the fans down by as much as 10-15% depending on how thick you allow the dust to build up.
its the length of beeps thats important they will be short 10th of a second, to long half to 1 second
the order that there short and long will tell you what to look for in the bios beep code lists you find on the web.
so if you can tell us what combo of beeps you have we can start from there.
turn off al fan warnings in bios they dont work for the most part. also make sure the case open warning is off.

thanks for the reply,

the beeps initially were short as you say, but there was 3 right at the end which were longer and sounded a bit deeper, before it crashed.
and yes, all fan warnings and case open warning are off as well

from what i can find you have an odd bios code but most say video error. so check the gpu in another build if you can, if you cant check the pcie slot, power cables and so on.
also check to see if you can increase the fansppeed in bios. if its set to low on systems that allow it, it can give a 5 string+3 string of beeps on an award bios equipped system.

Cold boot only on my new board (Asus P4T-E, bios 1005) I experienced the normal 1 beep and then 5 seconds later, 3 short beeps and then my system went into sleep mode. Changing the Suspend Mode to off OR increasing the # of seconds to enter suspend from default cured the problem. Submitted by Steve Trembley.

Award BIOS 6.00PG/Asus P4T-E: 4 long beeps when turning on your system might indicate yout CPU fan is either damaged ot running to slow. Check your CPU fan. Clean or replace it with a new one.

Award BIOS 4.51PG/Soyo SY-6BB: A repeating high/low beeping. This is due to excess heat alarm. Solution: Change the settings in the BIOS or add/replace CPU fan.

Award BIOS/Asus A7V133: Check "Fan Check Beeping" under the "Power Management" options in the BIOS.

Award BIOS 6.00/Abit KR7A-133: One low pitched tone for every 5 seconds, over and over. System boots fine, but will not reboot from a warm boot. The system will reboot from a cold boot though. Check the fan speed in the BIOS and change it to a higher speed.

Award BIOS 4.51PG/Gigabyte GA-BX2000: Five short beeps sound when the main BIOS is corrupted and the spare BIOS has to be loaded as only choice for successful boot. Submitted by Andy

* the above are user submissions from the award bios page that fixed there 5 beep (+3beep) issues.

ok, thanks!

I have just got the gpu in the last month so could it be that the system is trying to boot for the integrated one despite it being disabled?

also, I am not able to check the gpu in another system, plus I cannot change the gpu fan speed in the bios, only the cpu - which is set to normal.

I see now. I did think that the cpu was dusty when I put the gpu in.

is this common? I have only had the computer since February, surly it shouldn't need cleaning so soon?
