In terms of gaming performance i heard it doesnt really differ between the i5 4670k and i7 4770k is that true. Im new at this and im hoping to pair with a asus sabertooth Z97 mark II will that be a good choice?

Solution

RoG boards step on TUF mobos. So yeah.

If you would do video editing, programming or stuff that needs rendering, upgrade to the i7.The i5 will be fine for gaming.Sabertooth Z97 is good but RoG boards are the best.

The i7 core offers higher clock speed of 3.5GHz- 3.9GHz with Turbo- than the i5 which has a speed of 3.4GHz- 3.8GHz with Turbo. The i7 is also hyperthreaded, unlike the i5, which means it can handle twice the amount of threads than its counterpart can, putting it at a capacity of eight simultaneous threads. Furthermore the i7 also offers higher L3 cache of of 8MB to the 6MB of the i5.

Hyperthreading can actually create problems, I'm running a 3770K with hyperthreading disabled for gaming!

Ended up doing exactly the same thing with my 2700K! :pfff:

Additionally in some applications hyperthreading decreases performance rather than increasing it, the only performance gains you're going to get from hyperthreading is if you're running applications hyperhtreading is optimized for otherwise it is useless!

With the applications I run, Audio/Video encoding doubles with hyper threading disabled, so to me it is literally useless, IMO the only reason to go for a hyperthreading capable K CPU, is for a better batch of silicon for higher clock overclocking purposes!

That is the only reason I bought the 3770K in the first place and you can check my CPU-Z validation to the right if you wonder why.
