My computer is working a couple months that way and no melting or else.
The only impact it has is in gaming. When im playing i get fps drops out of nowhere. They last about 15-30sec and everything goes back to normal. This action repeats from time to time. After 5-1min it happens again.

My specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
AMD Phenom II X6 1050T Thuban 45nm Technology
6.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24)
MSI 760GM-P23(FX) (MS-7641)
1023MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 SE (Gigabyte)

If it's throttling on top of the weird temperature readings then it's likely to be a hardware sensor issue and as gamerk316 said about the reading being in represented in a 8 bit value of 0-255 values.
