AMD or NVIDIA? (I know, but please help me...)

WildStar and Watch Dogs run badly on my PC and complaints on the forums for both games lead me to believe that my AMD card is to blame.

Do you agree with this? Should I buy an Nvidia card? If not, what should I do/upgrade to improve performance?

GPU: Asus ATI 7950 3GB
CPU: i7-2700K @ 3.50GHz
RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz

I use one 1440p monitor.

I'm also having trouble finding the right Nvidia card to go with. The 770 is much cheaper than the 780, but only has 2GB of memory. Is that enough? Or do you recommend something else?

Here are the cards I'm looking at right now:

Watchdogs is extremely badly optimised for AMD cards right now, in a few eeeks performance will improve. I am using a 280x (almost identical to 7950) and am hitting 60fps on mostly ultra settings, at 1920x1080 with no issues. When you say Watchdogs runs badly, what fps/resolution/settings are you using?

the AMD card is to blame, yes. Though you have a 7950, is it really worth the upgrade to a GTX 770, no.

If you want best performance on watch dogs, the GTX 780 series cards are your best option, and compared to a 7950, a worthwhile upgrade.

Though; Currently the drivers for AMD cards for specifically watch dogs are poor, wait for the next driver release by AMD and see how well your 7950 does then, don't just jump into it first.

I'm after 1440p 60fps, but can't seem to get a consistent 60 unless I lower the resolution and graphics settings to low... and even then it's still a bit unstable.

Thanks! I'll have another look at 780's then.

AMD seem to be far behind Nvidia when it comes to drivers. Assassin's Creed 4 still runs horribly on AMD cards and this seems to be happening more frequently with big releases lately.

I don't really want to upgrade to another AMD card and wait for drivers that may or may not come. Especially since they almost definitely won't be as effective as what Nvidia are offering.

That's a bit harsh lol, I have an AMD card and have never had any problems. I bet you that in the next 12 months there will be games that run well on AMD and not well on nvidia cards, similar to the reverse problem with Watchdogs. If i were you use price as your guideline when comparing the 780 and 290, whichever you can get cheaper is the one you should buy imo

I know I'm starting to sound like an Nvidia salesman, but I've never even owned one of their cards before. It's just that based on benchmarks and the amount of issues games are having with AMD right now; Nvidia seems like the logical choice.

I've always gone with AMD when buying a new card, because they always provide the best performance for the price. But right now the games I want to play are running far better on Nvidia cards, so it seems like the perfect opportunity to upgrade and try something new.
