Hello,

I have a real big problem.

I am buying a new computer next week and I have issue about the graphic card that I hope you can solve here.

I can buy PNY GTX770 4GB or Gigabyte R9 290 OC 4GB

Which one is better?

From the one hand R9 290 is stronger(?)
But from the other hand GTX770 has physx and strong to.

So which one will be better for games?

Basically the build will be something like:
i5 4590
8GB RAM

So which GPU will be better?

Now one more thing.
The R9 290 is used. It has 2.3 years warranty.
On the store I can buy it they told me that it been used by someone who mine bitcoin and he brought something like 120 of this GPU, he been using this for 6 months but he deside to switch to mine rig.
So he sold them back all the GPU. He also had "backup GPU" which he never opened so its brand new but with less warranty (2.3 years) but never been used.
The price for this GPU is user - 1250 ILS = 360 USD
And new (with less warranty) - 1545 ILS = 444 USD
This is the R9 290 - http://www.plonter.co.il/detail.tmpl?sku=GV-R929OC-4GDu...

So PNY GTX770 4GB VS Used / New will less warranty Gigabyte R9 290?

More about : gtx770 4gb gigabyte 290

You have to be honest to yourself, do you actually play games with physx.
The R9 290 is indeed more powerful than a GTX 770. The R9 290 is on the same level of a GTX 780. Then again, do you want the full warranty?
I wouldn't recommend a mined AMD gpu. I would probably choose the new R9 290

the 290 is a more powerful GPU than the 770. you are talking about a 20 fps difference. I am not saying the 770 is a bad card but the 290 wins in this matchup.

I would personally never buy or recommend a card that was used for mining. There are too many unknowns, most cards were run at max load 24/7, you don’t know for how long, or what temps the card was run at. yes amd starts throttling around 90c, but that does not mean you should always be that hot, it reduces the overall life of the GPU.

If your budget allows get the new 290. You will get more time with the 290 before you need to worry about upgrading again.

The higher power will be better then the physx in this case?
And is the R9 290 is recomended?
Becuase when it just came out i've been told that there is lot of problem with this card, most of all about the cooling.
And I've been told that there is a problem with AMD drivers in pricicular
But if your are saying that the different of the R9 290 will be better then the GTX770 for gaming then I think I will listen to you.

Now another thing is about the warranty, I get warranty of 2 years and 3 months instead of 3 years. Do you recomend about it?
Because the different is of 110$, new with 3 years warranty will cost me 1900 ILS which is over 545 USD.

The reference model of the R9 290 had cooling problems. The non-reference R9 290 has no cooling problems at all.
Yes the R9 290 will pull ahead in terms of performance than a GX 770. The R9 290 was to compete with the GTX 780. The warranty with 2 years is still ok. Both Nvidia and AMD have equally driver problems. Most problems are in the beta drivers but note it is a beta driver so there are bound to be some issues with some games

physx is awesome, but if the case of these two cards i would go for more power and longevity. Just make sure you buy a good brand with good coolers i.e. Sapphire, or ASUS, they generally have good coolers for the 290’s.

if you were asking between the 770 and 280 I would recommend the 770.

looking at some reviews it looks like the card you linked runs hot and the fans are loud. Now that I am thinking about it what size/brand is your PSU?

Most of the time with GPU’s the problem happens in shipping, and you will be doing your returns and exchanges right away. The card will be dead when you get it, or the fans are rattling, ect. I think 2 years should be a good amount of time for a warranty.

If warranty is a big concern for you look at getting a PNY 770. PNY has a lifetime warranty program.

I still haven't brought the PSU.
I am planing to buy a whole new system.
Later this day I will open a thred in the system forum will you be able to help me there to?
So what you are saying is to not buy the R9 290 of Gigabyte?

And the problem I have with the GPU warranty is most of all because I had to deal with it on the PC I am using now.
It has GT220 and every time i tried to update driver that happened - http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2161944/problems...
I will be glad if you could help me there (sorry about all the requests =/)
And 1 time it had serious problem with heat.
So basically this is why I am so scared about the GPU warranty =/
