I have damaged the connection to my case power button and the computer will not power up. It looks like a fiddly repair.

If I briefly short the 2 power leads together will that signal the mobo to power up? Is that how the power button works? I don't want to fry anything.

Solution
If you also have a "Reset" switch, you could re-purpose that to your On button. Both are just momentary connect SPST switches.

Otherwise. shorting the 2 pins on the mobo momentarily will work just fine. Just not as elegant a solution.

I've a Zalman Z11 Plus case. I've had the front panel on and off for the past week. The power button wires connect to the wires from the motherboard via 2 connectors, 1 for the power LED and 1 for the button itself. Instead of disconnecting the connectors I stupidly left them connected and just put the front panel to the side whilst working and have caused 1 of the wires to disconnect. I've removed the power button assembly and hope to be able to replace that by itself. I was just looking for a short term solution.

I'll fire up and see what happens.

Excellent advice! Up and running now using the 'Reset' button. Will have to see if I can get hold of a spare power button, and have sent emails to Zalman support and a distributor here in the UK.
