Hello. I was wondering which CPU would be sufficient for my needs. I am just recording as a hobby but I want to make sure my system would be strong enough to not lag out or get choppy when working.

I want to be able to record, playback, mix and edit lets say.. 10-20 audio tracks (maybe a little more but not much) of virtual instruments/ physical instruments. Both most likely with effects.

I'm new to all of this. I plan on using the intel i5 4670k with an asus z87-a motherboard. I still haven't figured out what type of ram yet- I was thinking the Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1600Mgz PC3 12800. Or maybe the 16GB version.

I also plan on using "Sibelius 7" ( I'll be starting off with "Sibelius First"). And Acoustica Mixcraft Pro Studio 6 for my DAW. I will be using some kind of external audio/midi interface (I haven't decided on which one yet).

I just wasn't sure which CPU I should choose to start my build around. Like I said, I would prefer the i5 4670k. But if you'd think it would be worth it to spend the extra money now and not worry about the system being overloaded, I would greatly appreciate any input.

Thank you so much for your help.

the only REAL difference is that the i7 has hyper-threading.
check out this link about hyper-threading:

if you don't really think you'll need it;..... the i5 is the best VALUE, just my 2 cents.

For your needs, a 4670K should be great. That said, part of me wishes I got a 3770K over my 3570K for handbrake conversions and greater thread usage in modern titles. In my opinion, get the 4770K if you can afford it.
