So I just bought a brand new i5 4670k from tiger direct. Got it on special today for $240+tax which came out to $275. My girlfriend is buying me a brand new z97 maximus vii hero next week for my birthday. And was wondering if I should return the processor and get the new i5 4690k. Because of where I live the new processors are expected to be roughly around $60 to $90 more than what they were announced. I also plan to get an i7 broadwell if I do get a z97. Is there really a huge difference between the two?

Solution
The difference is in terms of 100MHz between two plus 4690k has much improved TIM (Thermal Interface Material) which will help in better overclocking and less heat issues. So, if you can return and get the 4690k you will be better off only in terms of OCing. Overall, 100MHz is really not so much improvement given the fact that k series CPUs can be overclocked much more beyond the stated frequency.

You really can't go wrong with either of them.

There's basically no difference between the 4670K and 4690K, a 0.1GHz increase is about it.

I would say the 4690k is better due to TIM, which helps with overclocking. Also, it has an extra .1GHz and it is based on Devils Canyon architecture which is basically a refresh of Haswell. The 4690k ($240) is cheaper than the 4670k ($277).

The 4670k is better at overclocking but the 4690k has a better single core performance. Although if you do own a 4670k, it is not worth it to upgrade to the 4690k. But if your building a pc, I would recommend the 4690k because of its performance and how cheaper it is compared to the 4670k. Just remember, it doesn't matter how many people like the product, it matters about price and performance.
