Just don't buy a super cheap one and you'll be fine. There isn't much use for an expensive high-end motherboard if you won't be overclocking, but at the same time you want one that is going to last. Which Athlon are you going for? I could suggest motherboards for you if you'd like.

The features that are going to help gaming. Gold plated connectors for the gaming port (PS/2 and USB) and another great feature is the Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2200.
Technical specs you wanna look for is how much MHZ it will support on the RAM, as well as enough SATA III (6Gb/s) to support any SSD HDDs that will be used in gaming.

Don't know the AMD motherboards that well.. but if you wanna come over to the darkside and run intel, I'd suggest a MSI Z77a-G45 Gaming.
