My CPU temp is hitting 45-51 degrees celsius in idle and 70-72 when gaming and video rendering, is it too high?
Specs:
Core i3-2120 3.3Ghz
4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz
Gigabyte GTX 560 ti OC
500GB WD Caviar green
Gigabyte Z77-DS3H

Yes that is too hot. Are you still using the stock cooler?

I would buy some Artic Silver 5 thermal paste and reapply it on the cooler. Make sure there is good airflow in the case and that cords aren't in the way and stuff.

Tried to clean the dust out of the heat sink but still the same temp, if i reapply thermal paste to the CPU how much would the temperature decrease? and is the Prolimatech PK-1 good as the Artic Silver 5? Because the place where i buy computer components doesn't sell the Artic Silver 5

Yeah that's good stuff!

I just read some reviews on Newegg and some people say it cools better than Artic SIlver 5.

Keep us posted!

If my temps were too high then i'm in big trouble because i game every day and i'm playing some intensive titles (BF4, Watch Dogs, AC4). If i reach this temp regularly will it damage or shorten the lifespan of CPU ? I don't want to replace my cpu anytime soon because i don't have much money left after buying some gaming gear

And should I consider buying an aftermarket cooler? will the temps improve significantly if I installed one?

Yes. Very much so. I'd pick up a Cooler Master Hyper TX3, which is overkill for the CPU, but for the price, it is well worth it.

The best choice heat sink for that cpu is an Arctic Alpine 'GT' r2. (!!! GT !! not pro or other!!) .
It is smallish,, is rated at 95 watss, is almost silent , comes with paste applied and costs £9.
I am running a 4430 i5 on one and I can barely hear it.

Not well rated... ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...)

I think the Cooler Master TX3 gives you much more for your money. That Artic one would give you very little improvement over the stock cooler.

Not well rated? He is running a TWIN CORE! What part of I am running one on a quad core right now did you not understand? I have star trek running in the background without cpu saver turned, on , the fan is set at 900 rpm , I have a shed load of other things running and my core temps on one and two are 40 degrees celsius.
He is running a 60 watt cpu, its a 95 watt cooler. Do the math. He will gain nothing from your super dooper cooler except a bigger price. Get a grip, man.
Its not well rated for OVERCLOCKING QUAD CORES!

Dude... read the reviews on the newegg link I posted... It says it has a weak linking mechanism and that the thing is junk.

It does cost more money, but for the money, the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 will cool it much better, and it is actually a quality product. It has copper cooling pipes, a bigger fan, and a better name, just for $8 more. I think it's a no-brainer. He could use that later if he decides to upgrade to an i5-3570K.

Dude, even
a retard would realise at first glance careful board out of box installation is required. Do you
think I 'magic'd mine in some how? Have you installed one?
I am giving first hand experience of a product and you are quoting the un skilled masses on new egg
who tried to install it without care or thought.
It will only fit in one orientation. Other than that there must have been a bad batch, as I have had no problems whatsoever.

Dude, whatever. Let's just let the OP decide.

Both are good coolers, one is cheaper and doesn't cool as well (artic freezer 11 rev 2), and the other costs more, but cools better and is more reputable.

Yeah i'm planning to upgrade my CPU to an i5 later this year, and is it worth it to buy the hyper 212 evo instead of the hyper tx3? where i buy it only costs $4 more than the hyper TX3 you linked.

Yeah, the Hyper 212 EVO is definitely overkill for any CPU if you aren't overclocking, but for $4 and if you are okay installing the backplate for it, it is a better choice.

You need 160mm of space inside between the motherboard and the panel to fit the 212 EVO in. Make sure your case width is that big or greater.
