Adding D-link router to existing network

Let me first give you an overview of the existing network. The name of the network is WireLink2.
First of I have my modem/router combo that my ISP has given me. (It's a Belgacom BBox 2 if you wanted to know)
This router has two LAN ports and Wi-Fi enabled.
To that a Linksys WRT54G is connected via one of the LAN ports of the BBox.
The WiFi on the Linksys has been disabled in favor of the stronger connection of the BBox.
Also there are three devices connected to the Linksys. One PC, a NAS and a media center. (along with about 4 notebooks, two tablets and a few phones connected to the WiFi of the BBox.

Now I want to add a D-Link DAP-1360 to my network. I already tried setting it up and it kinda works, but the speeds I'm getting are kinda slow about 1.0 - 1.7 MB/s (as measured by steam). On my main PC (connected to one of the LAN ports of the Linksys) I'm getting speeds of up to 3.5 MB/s. So it's effectively halved.
I set up the D-Link as an access-point and connected it to the BBox. I gave it a new network name, D-link 1000.
My question is how do I configure this correctly to get faster download speeds? What router should I plug the D-Link in and what settings am I supposed to use on either one of the routers. Yes I have checked and the channels of the D-link and BBox are not the same.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All right it's seems to have been fixed for the moment, I don't really know what happened I just switched it over to the linksys and now i'm downloading at 3.1 MB/s. But it drops quite a lot like it goes down to +/- 200 KB/s but then it jumps up again.
With the speeds you are talking about it won't really matter which router you plug the Dlink in to. But if I had to choose I would plug it into the BBox. Ok make sure your wireless are only using channels 1,6, or 11. I would use channel 1 and 11 on your devices (without seeing a spectrum map of your location). Make sure your wireless channel width is set to 20mhz, not 40 or auto.
