16gb/32gb RAM stick?

I'm going to be running my own Minecraft server from my computer, and when it comes to Minecraft servers, a lot of RAM is needed. I've noticed that when it comes to large RAM sticks, server memory is cheaper then desktop (can someone please explain the difference?). So specifically what I'm looking for is a stick with the following specs:

DDR3-SDRAM, 16gb & 32gb stick (not 8x2,4x4 etc.), and works with the Intel Core i7 4770k processor

And also, the cheaper the better.

Solution
How many hard drives?
Any specific size for form factor?
Specific brands you like?
Will you do over clocking?
How many video cards do you plan on having?
Also, what ram did you choose?
AFAIK there is no consumer-ready 16GB stick yet - those really high capacity sticks are made for servers and professional workstations (supporting ECC which consumer motherboards don't support) and no consumer board supports 16GB sticks. Now you could get a server or a professional workstation motherboard (probably rather costly) and that would be able to use 16GB ECC sticks

Then yes, I would need that professional motherboard. What is the technical term for it?

I'll be running a CraftBukkit server, and it will need to support many players (minimum of 80gb ram)

Thank you so much!

Where would I go to find large RAM sticks?

I still don't see why you need that much ram for a minecraft server. For 32Gb of ram can support easily over 500 players. http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1543659-need-64-gb-ram/
Also, if you're hosting this server from your house, you'll need ALOT of bandwidth as minecraft will eat up your bandwidth.
Another concern I have is a server cpu has many cores, but don't offer great single core performance, and if they do, it'll be equal to an 4770k. And since minecraft, as well with craftbukkkit is single core applications, craft bukkit won't utilize all those cores.

Ahh thank you sooo much.... you've saved me at least $400 with that info
Is there something I could do to make it utilize more cores?
Also, is it possible to make it so the motherboard can hold more than 4 RAM sticks?

Craftbukkit is a single core application and cannot be run on multiple cores. Server processors are designed to handle many many many users attached to it like a school network or designed to handle large amounts of data in databases. For high end video editing software, you'd be better off using a 4770k cpu which has great single core performance or you could spend 1000$ on a lga2011 cpu that has 6 cores which will allow you to do some serious video editing and rendering but would not affect gaming performance.

now from what I've heard, when you use the Multiverse plugin to allow you to have multiple worlds, it's actually linking different servers, where each world is a separate server (that's what I got out of it) If this is true, couldn't I have the individual servers on a different core? (supposing it was 4 servers...)

Also, lets say im running 2 totally different servers at the same time, and I have 8gb of RAM. Would the amount of RAM I have dedicated between the servers have to be equal to or less than 8gb; or does it not matter...

No, multiverse is multiple worlds not multiple servers linked together.
If you wanted to use multiple servers and connect them together, you would have to use bungeecord. It is a proxy that the players connect to and redirects them to another of the servers. Doing this is very hard as getting the servers to sync, like the chat, tp, and other commands to work across 2 servers. But then you'd need to be running linux because spigot/bungeecord hates the window kernel and will not run very effectively as a unix kernel will. So yeah, you could have lets say 3 servers running on 3 different cores and then have bungeecord and the operating system run on the other core.

ahhh that makes sense. Would it be worth the trouble?

Unless you have an irc server and a mysql database at your disposal, then probably not. How many plugins/players do you expect? Also what is your download and upload speeds http://www.speedtest.net

I'm thinking it will have around 20 plugins

Ping: 0 ms
Download speed: 27.52 mbps
Upload Speed: 6.01 mbps
im not on the computer that id be hosting from if that makes a difference; how can I speed the connection up?

(sort of off topic) since the number of cores doesn't matter all that much, then it would make no difference if I went with Intel Core i5 instead of i7 right? If so, what's the best i5 for Minecraft gaming/server hosting?

Craftbukkit utlizes multiple threads in some cases and thats the only advantage you'd have with the i7. You probably wouldn't notice a too big of difference between the 2 cpu. Your internet speeds are gonna be adequately up too around 75-100 players before minecraft eats up all the bandwidth. You speed it up by paying for higher internet speeds through your ISP.
i ran a minecraft server off of an old 2003 workstation and was single core pentium 4 clocked at 2.8ghz. It was terrible and got loads of lag and was limited to only using 2gb because of 32bit arch. With my laptop hosting the server now, which is a 1.8ghz dual core with the same amount of ram had run wondrous and held up to 15 people... the only problem was that no one ever came onto my servers.
So going with i5 would be better for price/performance

If your running 2 servers on the same processor, the max you would be able to allocate is 6gb of ram(windows 8 takes up 2gb of ram, which is why I love ArchLinux because it only takes up .064Gb of ram) but lets say you allocate 8gb to each server in the start up .bat file, then it will end up sharing the ram space and if both servers are under heavy load, they would only be able to utilize 4gb. Just because you allocate 8gb of ram, does not necessarily mean that it is using 8gb of ram, it means that it is allowed to use that much.

ahh that clears it up

so I've decided to switch to the Intel i5-4570 which is at least a $100 difference from the i7 4770k and I've decided to go with 32gb of ram

so now, is probably one of the worst parts for me.... the motherboard.... so much stuff, i have no idea how to make sense of it or figure out what i need

the only info that I know for sure is:
CPU socket: FCLGA1150
RAM slots: 4 (240 pin)
It needs to be able to handle at least 32gb of RAM (im looking for 48gb as a preferable minimum in case I decide to expand)
USB slots: 6 (USB2 or USB3 i have no idea)

please help me figure out what all the other info I need is, and what it means

Are there any 16gb sticks that are cheaper and/or better then the one i had, instead of 8x2?
And with the motherboard, is there one that has a RAM capacity of at least 48 that you's recommend?
