Gaming PC Overhaul

My current non-gaming set-up:

Intel I Core 2 Duo E4800 2.66 GHZ Dual Core
Motherboard: The IPIBL-LB (Benicia)
RAM: 4 GB, not sure if one stick or two
GPU: NVida 8400
Case: HP Pavilion Elite

So with these specs can anyone completely overhaul it into a gaming PC? On a budget, so below $400 would be ideal. No peripherals needed nor OS as I already have them. Thanks.

There isn't all that much you can do without complete gutting the machine. I think you could get an Q6600 or similar processor in there and then an NVIdia 750 ti video card. It would play quite a few games and be a perfectly acceptable rig.

I think probably a better option is to save the 400 bucks and start saving up for a whole machine or possibly just stick a GTX750 (the non-ti one) in the machine you have while saving up to tide you over. It would certainly help make games look quite a bit better and be playable. The NVidia 8400 is a really old and slow video card at this point.
