No VGA signal on new parts

I'm building my first PC. I pulled everything out of the box, brand new, and when I got it all put together my monitor, which is also brand new, says there is no VGA signal. I have also tried re-seating the RAM and using an HDMI cable instead with no success. Should I just take it all apart and redo it? Or is there something I'm missing?

I have both the VGA and DVI cables plugged in directly from the monitor to the back of the tower.

I got it. I had the cables plugged into the motherboard when I should have had it in the 270x. I put the DVI in the 270x and that got it. I'll chock that up to my lack of experience. Thanks for the help.
