Greetings T'sH Community.

ASUS has failed me once too many times. RMA after RMA after RMA. I am looking for another motherboard to replace the one I have. However, I'd like to salvage my 24GB of Corsair CMZ24GX3M6A1600C9 RAM and my Intel i7-950 LGA1366 CPU.

Can anyone help in locating a mobo that is compatible with these? Preferably not an ASUS. I'm done with them.

Aside from laptops, I've never owned a system I didn't build with my own hands and I've committed myself to using ASUS motherboards. I've never had a problem until this motherboard

First RMA was a result of the computer rebooting randomly while playing games. When I got the RMA'd board, the board was warped, the memory latches were chipped off. I continued troubleshooting my current board and discovered a memory issue with my memory using MemTest. I sent back the warped board, RMA'd the memory and the issue was resolved. Happy for a few months.

Second RMA was a result of motherboard not posting all of a sudden. Once powered on, it would power off. Then power on, then power off. Repeat. I thought it was thermal. When it booted, I checked temps. Temps were fine. It would post if I held the MemOK button, but then cycle again after letting the button go. I got the RMA board, swapped it... I was happy for a few months, until the audio interface stopped working properly. High pitched sound.

Third RMA was a result of motherboard sound not working. High pitched sound. This one was obvious. I get the RMA board, and now I'm dealing with the CPU_LED/DRAM_LED issue in the threads below.

They now want to do a fourth RMA.

I'm honestly not really here to complain. I just need a motherboard that will take this RAM. I went to Corsair's website and I could find no such resource of compatible motherboards.

I've been with ASUS 90% of my tech life; switching from ABIT to ASUS before that. I'm literally in shock that I'm going through this with this company. I also feel like they are sending me previously RMA'd boards that have never been repaired.

Anyway...

Any help would be much appreciated.

The first RMA (when I got the warped board and sent it back), I did run a 3rd MemTest and started getting errors with the memory. The memory was RMA'd and this fixed the 1st problem.

I tested the new RAM and no errors. So, the 2nd and 3rd RMA of the ASUS board was not the RAM. Also, it's difficult to test RAM for errors if the motherboard won't even post.

At any rate, I called Corsair and they advised me on the motherboard.

Thank you for all your responses.

Okay, I went to Fry's and they don't carry these anymore. However, I wanted to close out this thread with a solution.

I went back to all the threads I found with this particular issue and found a common theme. Reseat Reseat Reseat.

Of course I mindfully reseated everything, except one thing that I didn't really need to give one thought and that is what started to stand out in the review of these threads. "Reseat the CPU". I said to myself, uhm, "The CPU only goes in one way... and the lever holds it down, what's there to reseat". So, I said "F--IT" and gave some thought and attention to "reseating" the CPU.

Remember, this is an RMA board. I pulled everything apart except video card, CPU and 1 RAM chip; breadboard. Turned it on, same issue CPU_LED, RAM_LED bright red.

I took off heatsink, pulled out the CPU and analyzed the pins with a digital camera. I really studied it to make sure I didn't see anything odd or weird. There was 1 slight discoloration in lighting on 1 pin, but not too much. I did the same analysis with the actual CPU. I noticed the wear and tear from the pins; different sizes all unique. Absorbed in all the shapes. And now the "reseating"....

As I've done so many times before, I placed the CPU with the corners closest to the notches down first, then laid the CPU down. What I found interesting was there is a little play as the CPU sat there, not much though. I covered the CPU with the trap door, but before latching... I pushed the CPU "up" from the notches and held it there while I latched it down with the lever.

Powered it on and noticed the CPU_LED started to blink. I immediate shut it off (no heatsink yet). I threw on the heatsink, and powered it on again. The CPU_LED started to blink and then it went off. Afterward, the RAM_LED went out..... IT POSTED.

I turned it off. Took off the heatsink. Applied Arctic Silver. Assembled EVERYTHING. Powered on...

I'm back in business.

I started to do the dance and sing: "Wiggle it... Just a Little bit. I wanna see you wiggle it, just a little bit... THAT C-P-U!!!" :)
