I just upgraded my router from G to this dual band n65r. The installation is simple, but I can't see the 5ghz signal even I broadcast it. The 2.4ghz is working fine and I can see it and connect to it even I don't broadcast it. I have the wireless mode, control channel and extension channel set to "Auto", channel bandwith to "20/40 mhz" for both modes. On the 2.4ghz, "b/g protection" is checked next to the wireless mode. Radio is enabled for both modes in professional page. What have I done wrong to miss the 5ghz? It's probably not the range problem because it's not showing up in wire mode. I'd appreciate if someone can point me to the right direction.

Solution
The equipment that you're trying to use on the 5GHz band is NOT 5GHz capable.

The router is fine , it's the other peripherals tele, laptop, phone, handheld etc that are not compatible.
Older equipment was only b,g capable.

Let's assume for a moment that none of the clients are capable of using the 5ghz band, will I not be able to see it? When I had the G router, I was able to see my neighbors wireless N ssids.

One of my computers has wireless N adapter and I don't remember the model unfortunately, but I have the option to select 2.4ghz or 5ghz mode via device manager, network adapters. Based on that, I assume my wireless adapter is capable of doing so.

Don't you think I can at least see the 5gh signal even though I don't have the mean to connect to it???? Not necessary??

Have you heard "Assumptions are the m*** of all f****. But in any case, if NONE of the clients are 5GHz capable, you WILL NOT be able to see the network @5GHz.

Your neighbors N ssid may just have had the same ssid as his 2.4GHz network. ( I have mine configured in that way so that I don't need to keep changing my network when I cross over from one end of my house/office to another) although they always say have different ssid's to help you differentiate between the two, but, I prefer it that way.

Now assuming you have a N adapter, you ought to be able to see the 5GHz network when you select that option from the device manager, but, it is important that the adapter too should have the 20/40 MHz band option. Older N adapters just had 20 or 40 MHz options, only one of them not either or. So if the Router is using 20 or 40 or 20/40Mhz options the adapter should have the same option enabled on it. if not, you'll not see the network on it.
