Hi everybody,
I have a somewhat special problem. I have an old Lenovo U550 laptop, which has integrated and dedicated graphics (Radeon 4300 series) as well.
The dedicated crashed a while ago (integrated still working), and Windows immediately stopped working. I tried to reinstall (XP, 7 and 8 as well), but they all quit in the beginning (I guess when they loaded the drivers). I needed the laptop so I installed Ubuntu (which is working fine) and it is like that since then. Under Ubuntu did I realize that the GPU didn't work and that this could have been the problem.
I guess Windows would work if I could just get rid of the GPU. I can't disable it from BIOS (I can only choose between dedicated and switchable). I took the whole laptop apart and tried to remove the GPU but it is soldered on the motherboard.
I have to use some CAD softwares in the near future, so I need Windows. Virtualbox is not an option, because that would make my config even worse than it is now.
Do you know of any way that this could be solved? I thought of maybe updating BIOS and see if there's a way to disable the GPU there then, or installing some hacked Windows, which doesn't have the driver for the card, but I am not an expert on the subject.
So please help! Thank you!
