My 15 year old tech son, noticed his 4 core new processor was only using 2 cores. So he watched a walk through on how to update it to use all 4.
he went into msconfig went to boot and checked the option on top left and chose 4 cores. Restarted.
Now he gets a blue screen every time it boots up that reads: "Bad_System_Config"
We tried to restore it to a point before that, but it did not fix it.
We put in our windows install disk, went to repair, but it cannot repair it manually, only do the system restore point. Still does not work.
Cannot boot into Safe Mode either.
Got to C prompt, but had to go through the repair first so when I tried the C:/Windows/System32/ sfc /scannow it says that there is a pending repair, so I have to restart first, but to get to the C Prompt I have to go through that repair tool, so there will always be that failed auto repair.
Is there a way for me use the C prompt to uncheck that box and put the cores back to 2, in msconfig?
I think he is going to have to just destroy his stuff and just reinstall windows, but his school work is all on there (he is home schooled), so he will lose a LOT of stuff.
Please help.
Thank you.
Richard
