Do you possibly have a spare HDD you can try to rule out your harddrive as that is my first assumption plus probably the cheapest to find out. Also what game or multiple games?

If it's happening with the HDD and The Optical drive as well, it's probably your system memory, you need to run a memory diagnostic and see if it's producing errors.

Run the test on all your modules and if you get any errors, test the modules individually to pinpoint the bad module.

ultimate he is installing the harddrive to play the game which makes me think its the harddrive you could download prime 95 and run the ram test but I would download coretemp and keep an eye on you cpu temp incase you cpu temps are high prime95 is very easy to stop in case you get paniccy at any time during the test... just for peace of mind lol
