Hello Guyz,
I've got a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12. it stopped being detected to my PC.I tried reinstalling my OS and checked every cable twice but found nothing. Tried connecting it to another PC and boom, It worked. Is not working only with my PC. but my pc is detecting another hdd's without a problem. So I thought thee might be some dust inside the HDD and opened it up out of curiosity and it was perfectly neat & clean until I made some finger prints on the platter :'( I didn't know it will effect my data.

Now, it's not working with another PC's too...
When I connect it, the platter spins for a 15 seconds and stops spinning after that. Loads of photographs are in my HDD and I don't have a backup. please help me guyz. Am really in Need :(

Thanks in Advance.

Solution
contact seagate , ask them for the torque settings , if they give them to you get a torque driver and try that , otherwise you have little choice

Yeahh Mickey Phoenix .. I got it now. I can't undo what I've done. So, is there any help you can do?
I've called a recovery service and he is asking me my 6 months salary. Really frustated!!

Assuming you tried to clean the fingerprints off afterwards with a clean dry lint cloth and you didn't scratch it, you probably leaned too hard on the head which is why it can't spin evenly and stops trying after a few seconds. I doubt you'll see those photographs again without spending a fortune but try loosening the screws off a little and try the disk again. If you overtightened, it could also affect the disks ability to spin evenly.

Don't mount the disk in the PC case - leave it so you can try different orientations - it may work horizontally but not vertically - try as many aspects as you can.

Remember that the drive was already "sick" (not being detected) before being opened. Those suggestions may work on an otherwise healthy drive (e.g. one opened purely out of misguided curiosity), but not on a drive that wasn't working anyway.
