So i just got my new gpu the Sapphire Dual-x R9 270x, ive tried everything i can think of, but i just cant get it to even be found. Ive reseated it multiple times, disabled the HD 4600 in device manager and in bios its set to 'peg' as opposed to 'igd' , i've then put the r9 back in and plugged the hdmi straight into the gpu instead of the motherboard, and still nothing. i updated my bios, although it should work regardless, still nothing. the power cable has been plugged in (6pin) the card has two sockets, ive tried both, the 'correct' one gives me power to the fans and they spin at a slow speed the whole time, but the card is still not detected. Do i have a faulty card? or am i missing something obvious? it is my first build so obviously im inexperienced with this kind of thing but i feel like ive tried all the options. heres my specs...

CPU: i5 4670k
MOBO: MSI Z87m-g43
HDD: 2TB
PSU: 600w evga 80+ bronze cert
RAM: 8GB 1333Mhz
GPU: (integrated) hd 4600

Hope someone can help, and thanks for your time.

ps, incase it makes a difference for some reason i use my main tv for this pc, hence the hdmi, i do not have a monitor.

It could be a faulty card. Do you have another pc you could try it in? Friends pc?

It could also be your psu. How old is it? Over time your psu will degrade and not put out as much power.

i have no dvd drive at the moment, so i was unable to install them that way. the instructions stated to disable igpu, plug card in plug power to it, "new hardware found" would show up, then insert disc yada yada. i did it only for it not to find the card in the first place. it also doesnt show anything connected to that pci lane in the bios. do u think downloading the drivers could still help? ive boxed it up again in a mad rage ready to send it back lol. thanks for the reply , appreciate it.

better to try installing the drivers on the off chance it works than wait a week or more for rma

you can download the drivers from amd's website

the power supply is around 2 months old, just got everything brand new around 2 months ago if even that. i was thinking it surely must be faulty unfortunately i know no one with a pc i can test with, all laptops and tablets and crap. thanks for the reply though man its much appreciated

im tempted to but if i were to plug it in again and it werent to work again, i may actually lose my mind. thanks for the link, but if it doesnt show up in the bios as even being connected then i cant see how the drivers would help, my motherboard should still know theres something there.

i feel like a dumbass but here is my solution should anyone else have the same problem. it turns out it requires 2x 4-pin power connectors *facepalm

Don't feel stupid. I'm actually having the same problem, but what I don't get is, where exactly can i get the 4 pins? i have 2 6 pins power cables, so i dont know how to use 4 pins. I literally just recently posted a question about this but my assumptions are different from yours.
