So maybe it's just me but it seems that 1/2x1/4 and 1/2x3/8 are the most popular fitting size. So far I have been planing a 3/8 loop. I'm new in the water cooling thing and was wondering if a product like on eBay says it comes with 1/4 fittings but I need 3/8 will it fit. Like can I chest change the fitting to a 3/8 fitting and take out the 1/4. Would like answer ASAP.

Thanks,
Dan

Solution
You need to buy fittings based on size of your tubing. If your off by any little bit and try and make it work, sooner or later your bound to have major leak, which is really bad.

typical size is 1/4 yes, but those are the threads on the opposite side/side that screws into the pump/res/rad, not the side that tubing goes on, the side that the tubing goes on there is an outside diameter and inside diameter. Depending which fittings your talking about (barb/compression/rigid), the answer would change. Compression fittings need to match both inside and outside diameter. Barb fittings need to match inside diameter, outside doesn't matter.

Dont get confused between the size of the thread and the size of the fitting. You will struggle to find 1/4" fittings, however damn near everything uses G1/4" threads.

Hypothetical 1/4" ID tubing would fit over a 3/8" barb, with a bit of a struggle but you would get a very tight seal.
