Today ive got a new headset. It has a green sound and a pink microphones jacks, Ive plugged them at the back because my front jacks are jammed, I will get them fixed later but for now I wanted to use the back jacks. Ive ran into a problem, My headset wont output any sound but however my microphone still works... Any idea what ive done wrong or is there something i need to do in the control panel?

Solution
The problem with the HDaudio device is it is very generic.

The device vender and device ID indicate that is is a realtek hd audio chip. It would appear you have generic drivers installed.

The latest drivers can be found from the realtek site(select the proper version of Windows. It should be one of the top 2 files) or alienwares homepage(you would have to put in your model number that should be on the case).

http://www.realtek.com/DOWNLOADS/do...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

If all installs as it should you should see the following.

In my case it is
2 for my capture card
2 from my video card(one out and 1 for shadowplay screen...
Please explain what you mean by front jacks are jammed.

If the card thinks something is plugged in the front, it may not play sound from the back.

Setting front and rear to play different sounds may work(allowing you to set the rear as default) or even disconnecting the front ports from the board/sound card. Many cards allow you to let them play sound even when something is plugged into the front port as well.

What card do you have? are you sure the drivers are up to date?

Sorry im a computer noob.
What i mean by jammed is that my old headphone's jack has broken inside the computer.
Also i couldnt really find what card I have, the maximum I could find was http://imgur.com/JNN4ZSU
'Setting front and rear to play different sounds' Is it possible to do that via the system (eg control panel)

Well it looks like they give no information at all on the boards they sell.

So moving on. Start + R to get the run box.
Type devmgmt.msc in the run box and hit enter

In the window that pops up check under Sound, video and game controllers.

Please get a screen shot of that.

I am trying to find out what type of card you have so we can see if it mutes the back when something is plugged into the front(and in this case gets broken into place).

1 is the one you are looking for realtek HD audio.

With that all setup you should now have a program that allows you to tell the card to keep playing audio even when the headphone jack is jammed up with another plug(more or less).

Now your rear and front will show up as 2 cards, this means you will have to tell Windows to use the rear as the default output.

Hit start and type Sound(this should make windows search). select the sound program with the speaker icon.
You will now see all your playback devices.

Make your speakers the default output if it is currently the 2nd output.

You may need to restart your audio programs for the changes to take effect.

You have an alternative and VERY fast way if your setup supports jack-retasking.
If you you have this feature you should see a front green as plugged in. double click it and bring up the re-tasking menu.
Select front speakers instead of headphones.
With any luck audio will instantly start playing from your rear speaker jack(it did when I tried it).

You last option is to open the system and disconnect the front put audio cable(it is a 10 pin connector from the front to the back, but you have to watch it, usb looks the same, but has difference cable colors. Most boards list HD audio so it is easy to find.). It is easy to do and should do the trick as well.

Solution
Please try to use the Windows Sound Recorder to test it.

Some programs may need to have settings changed.

You should also mute the playback option under mic as that could lead to a feedback loop(high pitched noise if the mic is too close to the speakers.).

Please also ensure that the mic has not been muted in software or via an actual switch. You can also try the mic on the front port if you wish.

The mic has not been muted with a switch or a program, Since the microphone and mic are both in one wire, I cant connect the mic to the front port. Any other things that might be stopping my mic from working?
