in the BIOS (os select) it says i can choose between win7 or win8 but i had this pc before windows 8 even came out. is it safe

i have WIN7 installed on my pc, i always had it. so i had a look around in the BIOS (im new to the bios and i wasnt changing anything) and saw OS select. i opened it and saw that win7 aswell as win8 were available, i never knew win8 was on this pc. is it safe to try win8?

Are you 100% sure that what you were in was indeed the BIOS?
Is it possible that someone installed Windows 8 without you knowing?
Is Windows 8 on the same drive as Windows 7?
Don't open it until you know exactly how it got there.
If you can, could you include some info on your exact computer model? Also, what exactly does it say (What did you click on, what did everything say regarding the options, etc)

Very ususual...
