Screen goes black for a few seconds then continues normally on certain games

On certain games whilst playing it will run perfectly fine and then my screen will freeze for a few seconds then go black and then continue what it was doing. This has only happened on a few games like The Elder Scrolls Oblivion but does not do it on Counter Strike Global Offensive.
My specs are
Intel Core i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30 GHz
8GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7700 series

It sounds like your card might be getting too hot. While playing games that get the black screen run a program that will tell you your GPU temps (I like HWMonitor http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html). Let us know how hot its getting at it's peak.
