  1. The R9 290x has a slight lead over the 780 in 1440p gaming, but not the 780 ti, which is in your budget. Between those, I would get a non reference 290x, but I would get the 780 ti over that.
  2. R9 290X is better at 1440p but GTX 780 or R9 290X will work fine at 1080p. the GTX 780 and R9 290x will trade blows. Make sure you are getting a non-reference R9 290X.
  3. Forgot to add Im running with a Asus VG278HR screen. My friend mentioned because of that I should get the GTX 780. The games will look better according to him

I think he may be slightly biased then. As Suztera said, they trade blows in performance.
  5. What do you mean by non - reference?

This is the one I had in mind

Not the reference cooler. The Nvidea one if fine, but the AMD one is notoriously bad.

No, that is a reference cooler. I would recommend this one: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-r9290xdc2oc4gd5
  8. non-reference models are have custom gpu cooler from what AMD or Nvidia gpu have already. They have better cooling performance than reference models and quieter. Example, MSI Twin Frozr, Sapphire Vapor X or Trix.
Reference models will most likely just have a single fan on them which isn't a good one either. Especially for the R9 290.
  9. yes it is good.......but the asus gives 3-5% good performance then other card..that i must say....
