how would a 550w psu go with a

ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2 Motherboard

R9 280x

fx-6300

Will an Antec VP550P 550W Power Supply
safely power these listed items?

How much were you thinking of overclocking to? I think a mild one would do to 3.8.

But if you had read that link I provided, you will see on that PSU wouldn't be able to overclock high enough to see real performance increases. :)

Edit: I'm just not sure if your PSU has the quality components to hand an large overclock.

Copied from ko888 :p This is a 770 with the vp550p

For a system using a single GeForce GTX 770 graphics card NVIDIA specifies a minimum of a 600 Watt or greater system power supply that has a maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 42 Amps or greater and that has at least one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is NOT the crucial factor in power supply selection!!! Total Combined Continuous Power/Current Available on the +12V Rail(s) rated at 45°C - 50°C ambient temperature, is the most important factor.

Overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU(s) may require an additional increase to the maximum combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings, recommended above, to meet the increase in power required for the overclock. The additional amount required will depend on the magnitude of the overclock being attempted.

The 770 is in the same tier in the hierarchy list as the r9 280x, so I am assuming the result would be similar if not equal.
