Hello there

I just bought a new HD a 4TB Western Digital.

I put it into the pc and went to disk management but nothing.

So I swapped the lead from a working HD to the new HD and still nothing.

I just checked and it doesn't seem that the BIOS is able to see the drive either.

Searched the forums quickly but did not find anything.

Whenever Ive done this before I have never had this problem.

MB is a ASUS Maximus IV Hero.

Really appreciate any help. Thanks

Sounds like you were thorough short of a second machine, sounds like a classic DOA. Contact WD and get a warranty replacement since it's new, they shouldn't give you any fuss over it.

Drives over 2.2TB have to be initialised using the GPT partitioning scheme which the manufacturer may or may not already have done for you. If the manufacturer hasn't done it, you can do it with Windows Computer Management: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2581408

You can scroll down past all the technical stuff if you prefer, the procedure is explained with screenshots lower down.

Huh that would suck, then again it seems that's what the problem is. Thanks
