Hi,

Just made the mistake of ordering the Sapphire R9 280x tri-x OC instead of the toxic version. (taught me not to shop while working).
Then after looking back at the numbers, I'm curious if its worth me sending it back for the toxic version, or just keeping the tri-x. :??:

Thanks for any help in advance.

Luke

Did you mean R9 280X vapor X trix vs R9 280X toxic? To be fair there isn't too much of a difference.

No, it's different to the vapor x. The one I've bought looks exactly like the toxic. Didn't even know sapphire had this card until I bought it by accident.
This is the one I've bought:

And this is the toxic:

So wondering if it's worth loosing out on the free games to get the toxic version? Or if this tri-x is out to replace the toxic, as most suppliers don't stock it anymore.

From the looks, they look exactly the same except the toxic one has toxic written on the middle of the fan.
But i think the Toxic, has slightly more power phases inside and the ability to switch between two BIOS on the card

Yeh that's all I could find, the core clock is only minor difference. Just wondering if it's worth the extra £10 and loosing the 3 free games in the long run.

If you already ordered and it is sent out, there isn't point really. If you can still cancel it that will depends whenever the Toxic brand is worth it to you.
They should perform similarly. To be fair, when summer steam sales comes the never settle bundle is not worth it if you were using it for the old games.

Had another long research into it, looks as though the r9 280x toxic has quite a high fail rate due to its overclock and most people have had to bring the clock down for it to perform smoothly.
Looking more like I may have made a good mistake.
So if anyone else comes across this, the toxic name may not be worth it this time round and take a step back for the sake of 50MHz.

Does the tri-x have the backplate like the toxic by any chance?

No backplate on R9 280X Trix. Only on the R9 280X Toxic.

The toxic r9 280x might be using higher binned chips than those of the Trix version. It doesn't matters much if your not intending to further overclock it as it already came factory o/ced.

The 280x toxic is easily the strongest of all the 280Xs, but I wouldn't say that 1-3fps more is worth £10 and 3 less games

Anybody know where I can buy the backplate?

Unfortunately, you can't buy the backplate separately like EVGA (Nvidia AIB) does for some of their cards. To get the backplate on the Sapphire card, you have to buy the card.
