I have 3 monitors set up with a GT 520 video card. 2 of the monitors are set up on the 520 card and a third monitor is set up on the onboard video card.

Gt 520
One card is HDMI 4k monitor and one is a DVI

The onboard card is a DVI.

My question is how do I get the HDMI monitor to display at a 4k resolution through HDMI. The windows resolution settings only offer 1920. I installed the nVidia drivers and they say the same.

Could it be a bad HDMI card?
Do I need a better video card?

Details on monitors:
1 Dell P2815Q HDMI 4k monitor
2 AOC 2251w DVI monitors

Also, the HDMI monitor frame rate is really bad. It isn't smooth AT ALL.

Also,
This setup is only used for software development. Not gaming.

According to the specs page on the GT 520 GPU the maximum digital resolution supported is 2560x1600 (at 16:10 aspect ratio). 1080p may be the most it supports when running two monitors

This is an entry level GPU after all

unplug all the other monitor and only plug the 4k screen, after plug them back and make the 4k as the primary display, you do it by going to screen resolutions

have fun

Thanks!

I will try Shasha's tomorrow AM. If that doesn't work, I'll pick up another GPU. Any recommendations for something that isn't too pricey? When it comes to hardware I don't know anything!

Thanks!!

did it work?
well the GPU's power isn't all that important here, it just enables you to have picture from PC to screen as long as you don't plan on gaming on it at 4k

Unplugging all monitors then only plugging in the 4k monitor made no change.

I didn't get a chance to pick up a video card this weekend. Hopefully I can today. I suppose I'll just tell them that I need something that can output 3840x2160 and also have a DVI port that can output 1920x1080. I fairly certain the sales man won't know, though...

According to geforce.com, on the Nvidia side the minimum card for 4k is a GT 640 or a GT 740.

For AMD, an R7 250 should be enough

Great! I will inquire about the R7 250. I am curious if it could output 4k from one port and then the 1920 from the DVI.
