CD Rom Blacks out the pc but keeps power when i insert a cd

hi,

when i insert a cd in to the rom my pc crashes. my monitors switch off but my tower still has power running through it i have to do a hard reboot through it to get it started again

try disconnecting it, if your pc stays on then you likely have a bad dvd drive.

check the connectors on the back of your cdrom ( optical drive ) are plugged in firmly and not loose , if the problem persists i would suggest replacing the drive , they are very cheap these days for a quality drive

thanks guys i put my cd drive into a friends pc and it runs fine.. i reconnected all the plugs. and still the same problem.
i think i might just buy another cd rom anyway.

did you use the same sata lead?

If your drive works ok on another pc , it may be a faulty sata lead , however if you wish to purchase a new drive then that's fine also but your lead may be the issue
