Hello everyone.
I am currently looking at upgrading my PC's GPU from the incredibly ancient GeForce GT240 1GB
to something a little more powerful.

PC specs currently:

  • Geforce GT240 1GB GDDR5
Intel Pentium G2030 3.0Ghz (upgrading to Intel i5 in the near future)
    Asrock H61M MicroATX mobo
    450W PSU
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    Normal size case.

Living in South Africa we often have problems with theft of shipping items from over-seas so unfortunately Newegg and other sites are out of the equation. I can however purchase from http:// as they are reliable for me and I live close to their main offices.

Please may you recommend a 'decent' GPU from that website or any nVidia GPU (more common here than AMD) that you feel will be worth it.

Budget for the card is around R1800 or about $170 / £102 and I would love to play games such as Assassins Creed, Battlefield 3/4, Witcher 3 (when launched) and similar games on adjusted Medium or standard High graphics.

Please may you also mention if the card needs other power adapters and whether the card will actually fit on a single slot PCIe slot.

Much Appreciated.

There's not much choices in your given shop. Anyway, to play smoothly those games, you should look at these: 560, 560 Ti, 650 Ti, 650 Ti Boost, 660, 750, 750 Ti. Maybe somewhere you'll find one them fitting in your budget.

Why does everyone keep pushing nVidia cards? I am not a fanboy, but am I really the only one who provides a little variety here?

R7 265, R9 270, R9 270X, R9 280; all in performance and price from left to right escalating. Buy the best one your budget allows.
