My Alienware m17x laptop ive had for 6 years has recently started freezing.

It happens when i have a few applications like Skype, google chrome, spotify and a game.

Its never been a problem before and ive ran malware checks and scans which came up with nothing and i wiped my hard drive to make sure there wasnt anything sneaky.

My nortons security says its high disc usage for most of these things but i have no idea how to fix this.

Help!!

The problem is im not sure if its a hardware problem or if its virtual. Ive done registration clean ups and such but i find whenever i run a scan or if i have more than 2 applications up at a time the computer just stops responding and the cpu usage drops to 5%. Eventually the computer recovers.

If you really want to rule out software issues then do a full re install of the OS.
Because diagnosing 6 years worth of registry buildup and conflicts is kinda hard..

For the hardware you can try to clean the intake fan, it may be an overheating issue. Also the hdd maybe dying, you can use chkdisk to scan for bad sectors..

Registry fix applications are not recommended.. but you can update your OS then check if it will improve.
