How to change GPU scaling WITHOUT Catalyst control centre?

I installed Catalyst 14.4 drivers but un-ticked CCC because I want to see if not having it installed helps with some crashes I've been having. Only problem is there is now a black border around the screen... I would normally fix it by sliding the GPU scaling bar in Catalyst control centre but I can't do that because i don't want to install it. Is there a way i can fix the border without CCC, maybe using regedit or something?

The CCC is your only option. The CCC should not cause any crashes.

Alt/Enter?...... never tried it............ but again, CCC shouldn't be a problem.

uninstall/reinstall?

windows updates for netframework updates and anything else that might be there?
