840 Evo 250 GB or 840 Pro 128 GB

Currently I have the Samsung 840 Evo 120 GB SSD for my OS, and I'm wanting to expand my SSD storage.

Price wise,

I could get a Samsung 840 pro @ 128GB and make that my OS drive, OR

I could get a Suasung 840 Evo @ 250 GB and keep my OS on the current drive.

Now is the 840 Pro significantly faster at startup compared to the Evo? I know there are articles on this, and I've read them, but in day-to-day experiences, has anyone seen a difference?

  1. Just use the EVO, it has great performance according to benchmarks, and you have enough storage not to worry about it. Having a small SSD is a pain in the ass!!

I use it - its great!

Keep the current EVO as the OS/boot drive. Add the 250 EVO if you want more SSD space.
  3. My sons got me a Samsung 840 EVO 250GB for my birthday, and it ROCKS! The Magician Software that comes with it is very good - expecially the RAPID (Real-time Accelerated Processing of I/O Data) module that allows the use of up to one gigabyte of system RAM to use as a high-speed cache. It more than doubles the I/O speed of the drive. I highly recommend this SSD.
