Hi everyone, new to the forum and new to overclocking too.

I recently built my first machine.

i5-4670k processor
asus z97 pro motherboard

I've had a go at OCing, and have been running for about a month at just over 4.4 GHz, using a base clock of 103 and a multiplier of 43. It's stable enough for me at 1.250v adaptive. However, I'd like to have another go and see if I can squeeze a little more out of it.

It seemed that the most I could get out of it is 4.4, any higher seems to require a large voltage increase. This is making me wonder if there is anything else that might be causing the instability. So, I'd like to ask a few questions. Please remember I'm new to this, so some of the following might look daft to some!

First off, What is a safe core voltage to run at? I've not been taking it over 1.3, can the 4670k handle more? I'll be running it in adaptive mode, and it will rarely be at it's max, so longevity of the processor shouldn't be too much of a concern (I hope). For example, would 1.4v be ok if it is only going to be used rarely?

Also, should I raise the cpu input voltage a little? Seen as the core voltage is now much higher than standard, could a slight increase here make any difference? Could this be capping the speed of the processor?

I've also read a little about the silicon lottery. Is 4.4GHz a decent speed for the 4670k, or have I got a crap one?

I should note that temps are not a problem at the minute. I delidded the processor, and even at 1.3v and 4.5GHz was only just breaking 60C, so plenty of head room there.

Any comments, critisisms or suggestions would be welcomed.

I'm using a Zalman CNPS 9700 LED cooler. Would have gone with the 212 evo, but didn't think to check the clearance when I bought the case. It wouldn't fit

Something else has just occurred to me. When it's failing a stress test, what should happen?
I'm reading about BSOD but 9 times out of 10, mine just restarts.

Could this be PSU related? I'm only running a 430W PSU, which I thought should be adequate considering I have no graphics card.
