AMD video drivers refuse to install

I've got an AMD HD 7570, and saw that on this computer I had some old video card drivers (Version 12.2, or something). So, I downloaded the 14.4 installer from the AMD website, and tried to install it. When I ran the installer, it went through with zero errors, but then I noticed it didn't actually update the driver - it only installed some useless 'AMD Gaming Evolved' software, and nothing else. So, I uninstall the driver, and run into my problem.

If I run the installer, it just reinstalls the catalyst installer and this 'AMD Gaming Evolved software, but not the driver! If I click 'custom install' there's only 'AMD Catalyst Installer' , 'HDMI Audio Driver' and 'AMD Gaming Evolved' - no driver! I used the Display Driver Uninstaller software, and when I rebooted it reinstalled the basic VGA drivers, but there's no change on the catalyst installer!. If I go device manager, and try to make it autoupdate "Standard VGA Graphics adapter" it just says that it's up to date.

If I use the AMD driver autodetect program, it detects that I have the AMD HD 7xxx hardware, but when I click 'download' it goes 'could not connect to server : could not parse error'.

I have no idea what to do! I've been googling around and haven't found anyone with my problem that's found a solution.

Yeah, I've even tried 14.6, 13.12, 13.9, just in case it was 14.4 causing the problem. Nothing.

Just now though I DID manage to get 12.1 back by loading from a system restore point, but the problem is still here - nothing is willing to install a new version, and if I uninstalled, it'd be stuck again, so I'm stuck unable to ever update my drivers and am worried there's some sort of underlying problem here.
