I've upgraded to a gtx 660 but now although my graphics are looking much better the fps has dropped massively. I didn't uninstall the old drivers from my old card, would that have any effect? Or is it likely my CPU (fx4100) is bottlenecked?

As swifty_morgan said, getting more ram won't help. I'm 100% agree with him. Please tell me at which res you're playing games and on what Graphics settings you're playing games. There can be several reasons why you're getting bad fps i try to keep it as simple as i can..

1)First off, Do a complete uninstall of your previous Drivers. you can use Display Driver Uninstaller(Google it).
2)Download latest beta drivers from nvidia website and install then reboot your PC.

if installation of drivers fixed your problem then great otherwise one more thing you can do is

Download CPU Core unparker http://www.coderbag.com/Programming-C/Disable-CPU-Core-Parking-Utility and unpark your any parked cores. Also goto nvidia control panel > 3d...
list specs........ also, remove old drivers and the new nvidia drivers and do a reboot. let windows find card. then reinstall nvidia drivers. I like to do custom installs so only them graphics driver and physx driver are installed. the rest is just useless bloatware.

after that a trip to windows updates might find something that helps your machine run better.

Thanks I'll try that.

Specs are as follows

CPU - amd fx4100
GPU - Gtx 660
PSU - FSP 450w
RAM - 4GB
MOBO - asus M5A78L-M
Cooling - Titan heatsink

Would getting more RAM help?
