Hi, I am trying to recover data from an old laptop that no longer works.
I have pulled the laptop out of the case and connected it to a WD external HDD adapter, USB & power cables are all connected. I continue to get a write protection problem when I attempt to initialize the drive in disk management.
After reading multiple threads where the solutions were not helpful to me I decided to make a thread for my problem.
I have tried:
Downloading 2 types of software that say they can unlock media write protection
Regedit > storagedevicepolocies > write protect > Value 0
If anyone could give me some other solutions that would be awesome,
Thank you.

Solution
You must first test the drive to see if it is faulty, otherwise you could just be wasting your time trying to get data off it.
Test it with SeaTools for Windows: http://www.seagate.com/gb/en/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/

Thank you for your reply, I have downloaded the app from that link and ran multiple tests all of which have failed. would that mean to say that the hard drive itself is faulty?
