Hello! I'm looking at building myself a relatively cheap pc that I'm going to use pretty casually. I use my pcs a lot, but don't do in depth with any one function. I would really appreciate some help from people who know what they're doing. I even filled out the template!:

Approximate Purchase Date: I'm buying the pieces as I go. I realize that may not be the most intelligent thing for some of the components, but I really want to get the most value I can.

Budget Range: I'm going to say $500 or less (not counting OS). The cheaper, the better, but without sacrificing quality and stability.

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Playing HD movies and streaming video on my 42" HDTV, light gaming (the most demanding thing I play is Dungeons & Dragons Online, more comments on this below), playing/streaming music, web surfing, office-type tasks

Parts Not Required: I recently picked up a 3.5" HDD, mouse, speakers. I don't want to get a monitor quite yet. I have an ancient LCD my dad gave me, and I'll see how that goes paired with my TV.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Websites with good reputation and service. lol I have a Prime membership, but I'm not going to pay $80 for a part I can get elsewhere for $60 + $5 shipping just to have it in 2 days.

Country: U.S.

Parts Preferences: No preferences for brands, again whatever has quality and stability. I'm not a tinkerer, once I build it, I don't want to mess with it unless I'm upgrading. I would like to try to go mATX, if at all possible.

Overclocking: Nope.

SLI or Crossfire: Would actually prefer integrated graphics.

Monitor Resolution: 1024x768, likely. I don't like my resolution too high. As long as my movies and games look impressive, I'm happy.

Additional Comments: Quiet is good, but my first build sounded like I had a ceiling fan on high in the case, so the bar is high there. I would also like some room to upgrade. My gaming needs are pretty low at the moment, but that may change. If it does, it won't be much. I might play Diablo III someday, I might want to pick up Might & Magic Heroes VI at some point. I'm not into FPS games, just the fantasy rpg types where the goal is to level up and collect stuff, and I hardly ever buy new games anymore. I figure if I do, I can pick up a budget vid card to drop into it.
Other than that, I'll just say that I want to go with Windows 7 as an OS.

It's been since 2007 since I've built anything, so I'm out of the loop. If there is any other information I need to provide, please let me know. Thank you all so much for your help.

not sure if you already had a copy of windows 7, though included it, which can drop the price. I also included a blu-ray drive as you said you wanted to play hd movies, though if not needed can also take $30 off the price. the build is micro-atx also, wasnt sure on the case, but its simple looking though you could choose others

I hear ya on the monitor. I'll start shopping around, and keeping that separate from the budget for this build. I already picked up a Seagate hard drive from Amazon. Interesting, I got 1TB for the same price. It's a 7200rpm, too.

Nope, I don't have a copy of Win 7. My sister's a student, I may see if I can have her get it for me. I forgot about an optical drive. I don't use blu-ray now, but I think I would like to have the capability. Thanks!

That looks good! All of you guys are adding vid cards, which through my research, I didn't think was necessary. I defer to the experts! It's still a good price.
