I have recently Overclocked my 2500k to 4.4ghz. The voltages seems pretty good to me but im not so experienced with overclocking so i'm asking for opinions. I have an Asrock extrem3 gen3 mobo with 8gbs corsair vengeance ram. I have a Hyper 212 evo cooling it and i replaced the stock fans to 2 Bgears that has a cfm of 103. after adding those prior to overclocking it reduced the temps by 5c which is pretty good. I've done a 7 hour test with prime yesterday this is just a little bit of prime to show you the voltages and temps. I want to push it higher but im sure im going to need water cooling.

I think i have a problem with my core#2 always being a lot higher than my other cores. Probably when installed it a year ago i spread it wrong so i ordered arctic cooling mx-4 paste hoping it helps. Anyways how does everything look?

Here are my screenshots

You can try to go higher, but 4.4GHz is likely sufficient to prevent most bottlenecks in video games.

Don't forget your fan noise will get higher as you overclock as well.

4600MHz vs 4400MHz is only about 5% faster so even if the CPU was the sole bottleneck you'd only gain a couple FPS (i.e. 52 to 54FPS). Likely you'd get either nothing or 1FPS.

ahhh alright how do my voltages look? average? I'm going to lower the core voltage to +0.005 instead of the 0.010. Also, voltage readings are different than the mobo how can i correct this?

for reference I am running a 2500k @ 4.5GHz using a cooler master geminii s524 ...

my settings are almost the same on my ASRock z77 my voltage peaks at 1.36 but normal gaming is 1.3 ... any thing under 1.4 volts is fine for 24/7 use ...

depending on the chip you may be able to get stable 4.6GHz and 1.4volts

When you get the MX-4 and pull the cooler inspect the thermal footprint to try and ascertain why your core temps are so different, sometimes it occurs because of thermal compound application, sometimes the heat spreader is warped either in or out, sometimes the heat sink base is not flat, etc.

And inspection will show you what is going on under the heat sink base, getting MX-4 is a good thing as it is a thinner consistency carbon based compound, and it will spread very thin under contact pressure, because the only purpose of thermal compound is to take the place of the air between the 2 surfaces and that's all.

Meaning you want the thinnest even coverage you can get as less is best, you're only filling the microscopic imperfections, you're not after a solid thick layer as that is way too much compound.

Too much compound acts as an insulator instead of a conductor of the heat.

The thermal footprint will show you how the the coolers base is matching up to the CPU heat spreader, so you can see if there is any problems regarding contact over the 2500Ks core area.

Posting a picture of the thermal footprint will help us to see what's going on as well.

However you can have a perfect thermal footprint and still have very different core temperatures with a 2500K, but if contact is the problem you at least need to know?

After initial experimentation I settled on running fixed voltage for my overclocks, and I also had a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ not the EVO, running 2 matched Cooler Master fans in push pull, the fans were the same that came on the cooler.

I was running an ASRock M/B as well with the 2500K clocked to 4500mhz at 1.325v (fixed), my idle temperatures were 33c and load at 58c, with a 23c ambient room temperature.

My max load was much lower than yours, that's why I'm concerned about what's going on under that heat sink?

well once i get the MX-4 i'll let you know and another thing is my room doesnt get A/C so thats a problem too. Which method do you recommend me applying thermal paste?
