The 0 key is not working on my ASUS U36S notebook. When it happened I connected a USB keyboard to no avail. I remember not being able to use this key before because of message about the key being used as a shortcut but for the life of me I can’t remember what it related to! When it happened before I had the option to turn the shortcut off.
I am sure it is a shortcut lurking somewhere because I can still use the ) key and the USB keyboard didn’t make any difference.
I downloaded and installed Windows Hotkey Explorer and Windows Hotkey Commander but I am none the wiser.
I tried using a restore point but there was a problem with that too.
I hope someone can help me solve the problem. As my next step is to reinstall Windows if I can’t find a solution.
Thanks for reading my post and hope you can help.

Solution
• Sometines this type of issues are caused by infection, so it would be a good idea to run a virus scan with the installed antivirus, follow with a malware scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and if still nothing is found, do a online virus scan. BTW; System Restore can be disabled by infection so consider this possibility. Also, SR can only be re-enabled after disabling it and restarting... so you'd do better to disable it before security scans for better results, or at least disable it after a first time before repeating scans, specially if your scanners remove bugs that later come back.. this can happen because they can save copies of themselves in the System Restore folder and later reinfect systems.

• Other repairs you can try...

Unfortunately Key Tweak didn’t solve the problem. It did indicate there are no current mappings in the registry and that the key is mapped to 0, so I am left scratching my head. I tried to remap the key to 0 but it told me No current mappings in registry currently and no mappings were added.

I remapped the key ` to 0 but the 0 still didn’t work although the ) did. I tried the USB keyboard again with the same result. Just noticing when I press the 0 key I lose the mouse cursor and there so hourglass activity so there is some nasty piece of code running somewhere or something is corrupted.

Looks like a Windows reinstall which isn’t a bad thing as it is getting close to some housekeeping chores.

Thanks for your help Chicano it was a good try and I learnt something, Maybe someone else will come up with an answer.

• Other repairs you can try later are running the System File Checker with the installation Disk/USB inserted, open a command window typing CMD.exe in the search bar or Run Command, and type "SFC /SCANNOW" (no quotes)... and the System File Checker will scan for corrupted or missing system files and any it finds, will be replaced with fresh ones from the installation media.

• Another repair you can try is booting from the installation media and running the Startup Repair... this repair can check for and repair general system errors, including registry errors not only startup related. You can also repeat it several times forcing it to repair all possible errors if it doesn't succeed the first time or even in the first few tries.

• If you want more intervention from other users, you'd have a better chance re-posting the problem on a new thread with a tittle variation. I have seen posts that are complemented by the OP by separate instead of editing the initial message, and these may not be answered, or at least may take longer to be answered... this because once a new thread appears to have been answered they are sometimes ignored. People mostly want to get to the unanswered posts and not always compete against others for the best answer.
