Is it true that the GTX 660 downclocks past 70 degrees?

Hello.

I have been told that the GTX 660 (my card) downclocks once it gets past 70 degrees. Is this true? And if so by how much does it downclock?

In Watch_Dogs on high settings my GPU hits between 60-71 degrees, and it only stays at/above 70 for a few minutes every half an hour. Is this safe? Thanks.

You'll need to go into the NVCPL open the game name or if it's not listed there point it to the exe then check the various setting available for you to change.
No the card doesn't downclock permanently, it wait for temps to drop to around 50 degrees and then starts the cycle again ....
I think it downclocks by 13MHz.....
It's a good thing that the card doesn't allow you to continue at those temps since that would lead to a lower lifespan of the card. Even if the card crosses 70 for a few seconds or minutes it's going to throttle the speed to get the temps within the acceptable range. Yes, it is safe, although if you feel it's a pain you can change the setting to Maximum performance in the NVCPL for watch dogs....

Thank you very much! I have been looking for a way to do that for so long! (Like a year now?) I didn't even know you could choose max performance and such... XD I've always wanted to be able to tell the card to sacrifice performance and stay below 70? Thanks!

Do you know what setting it is? I apologise, I'm a slight noob. Also, is a downclock permanent? I'm sorry if that's an idiotic question but that's all I was worried about, I was informed that it downclocks the card permanently? I presume this isn't correct?
