670 vs r9 280x

The nominal performance of the GTX670 is better than the R9 280x but less than a GTX770.

But this may change from game to game. The R9280X is better for high resolution (eg 1440p) and multiple monitors.

In my opinion the R9 280X outperforms it due to mantle and other optimizations for those games also the GTX 670 is an older card and the R9 280X is on par with the GTX 770. But also getting either one of those cards would make the FX - 6300 work quite a bit I hope your not keeping the stock cooler.
