Why is my screen much smaller with the R9 290, than with my 7870BE crossfire?

Running-
16 GB Ram
1200 Watt PSU
8350 8 Core processor

This is my second R9 290 from XFX, with the same issue, I RMA'ed the last one because I thought it was defective, now I'm starting to think this is just how it is.

I'm using the ASUS 27 inch Digital Flat panel, but the card seems to be cutting out about 2 inches on all sides. Iv tried to change this in both CCC and the display properties, I'm being told that 1920x1080 is the highest I can go. I'm using an HDMI cord to my monitor, and I see that its set up as 1080p, not sure how people are getting 1480i in the settings, seeing that's not even an option.
Iv had no issue with my 7870 XFX BE's, everything fit perfectly on my screen.

The odd part about that is this monitor does not have ANY DVI ports, just and HDMI, VGA and a odd looking HDMI insert with one side kind of blocked off. I bought this monitor at the end of last year. It did however come with a few cords I'm going to try now.

Looks like I'm off to Micro Center, Id rather order online but I cant wait to see results as we all impatient with our rigs! Before I leave, should I be looking for a DVI to HDMI, or the one you just talked about? Display port? The 290 has one HDMI, two DVI and the odd looking HDMI port..

I found out that the Displayport to Displayport cable corrected the issue. I thank you very much for taking time to help me figure this out. In an attempt to learn something today, why did this cable work over the HDMI?

Basically, the GPU assumes when you use HDMI that the monitor you are connecting to is a TV, therefore forcing an overscan to make sure everything fits onto the screen. Displayport is only available on PC monitors, so it doesn't assume that your monitor is a TV and, therefore, doeesn't force overscan
