Hello everyone. I'm attempting to build a budget desktop that outperforms my current vaio laptop. This computer will be used for movie watching, gaming, downloading, internet, etc... In terms of gaming, I will not be playing fps or games that require the best graphics card to play. I will mainly be playing RTS and RPGs. My goal is a build that will outperform my current laptop, for not too much money. My budget is $300-500. Also, I would this computer not to take up to much room, so I guess I'm looking at m-atx boards.

My current Vaio is
Processor 2.5 GHz Core i5-3210M
RAM 6 GB DDR3
Memory Speed 1333 MHz
Hard Drive 640 GB
Graphics Coprocessor NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M LE
Chipset Brand Intel, NVIDIA
Graphics Card Ram Size 1024 MB
Wireless Type 802.11bgn

My build so far is

AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
Asus M5A78L-M LX PLUS Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Kingston HyperX 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Sapphire Radeon R7 265 2GB Video Card
Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

I've picked these out, but are already around the limit of my budget.
Would something like the AMD A10-5800K APU outperform my old laptop?

Please recommend me some parts that will outperform my old laptop, but still be fairly cheap. Thank you.

Thank you for the response.

Do you think I would need an after market cpu cooler? If so, what would fit?

Admirable
The advantage of having 2 sticks of ram is that Microsoft in all the great wisdom they have has programmed Windows to reserve 1 stick for the system and 1 stick for programs so systems will have optimal stability.

Do not mess around... Get a 2x4gb cheep stick set.

If you keep everything stock you don't need it, but it is always nice. if you OC then you need a minimum of a coolermaster hyper 212. If you want one to keep things cool stock look at the cooler master tx3
