failure configuring windows

This means that you have shut down the laptop when it said "Configuring Windows updates". On the next startup it will automatically revert back and it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes for it to do so. You waiting several hours tells me that something is very wrong. Is this a new Windows installation and you have downloaded the updates after installing it or did you have this machine already running Windows 8 but you decided to update it?
