Hi guys,

Interested in upgrading my GPU...here are my specs

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1

AMD FX-4350

8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-24)

ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. M5A97 LE R2.0 (Socket 942)

HL269DPB (1920x1080@60Hz)

HD RADEON 6450 1 GB DDR3

931GB TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 ATA Device (SATA) 34 °C

HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS95 ATA Device

PSU CS 650M (Corsair 650V 80+ Gold Modular)

Now, my BIOs says 12/12/2012 American Megatrends, and I recently had purchased a XFX R7 260X 2 GB DDR 5...which I had huge problems...black screens...no load PC even with POST...keyboard lights not even coming on etc...BSOD atikmpag.sys...etc which led me to put back my old card (the HD 6450) back into my PC. Works perfectly fine before (old card) and even after all that mess...I did do a fresh/clean wipe and reinstall for the R7 260x and still it did not help...so if anyone knows a probable solution that would be good.

I HAVE been told that its a driver issue with AMD, and not so much my PC specs...correct me if I've been told wrongly though.

I've done : reinstall, driver wipe/reinstall, tried the old driver, CD driver, newest driver, newest beta driver

But so I'm wondering...what to upgrade to. I live in Ontario, so my stores of visit could be:
NCIX ( http://www.ncix.com )
Canada Computers ( http://www.canadacomputers.com )
TigerDirect (http://www.tigerdirect.ca )

Generally I've found TD to be super expensive relative to the other two, so wondering between the 3 GPU's listed below:

R9 270 (not x)
GTX 660
GTX 750TI

Now here's the issue...I know the R9 270 is the best of the 3 right? From all the research I've done...AND I purchased one (returning today to get it again to renew the 15 day return policy :D  ) for about $155+tax around $167. The GTX 660 is about $200-210 + tax less rebate...so the cheapest one is a GTX 660 SuperCLocked by EVGA for abnout $189.99 after rebate (but actually plus tax and then deduct rebate its closer to about $215 total)...

The GTX 750 TI is on sale for about $165 + tax with an additional $10 rebate so after rebate about 176. So the difference between the two is about $40.

Which one do you guys recommend? The GTX 660 (about $215 after all taxes/rebates/discounts) or the GTX 750TI (for $165 after everything) or my R9 270?? The only problem is I worry is that my R9 270 is the Club 3D one, and it uses the drivers from AMD...so I'm not sure if I would face the same problem as the XFX R7 260x considering they too use AMD drivers, and the only thing new is the updated beta driver...

Any tips?

My budget is up to about $200, I'm more leaning on the side of value / dollar, but also wondering about the AMD issue (hence the R9 270), and wondering if the nVidia's would give a similar issue? Or if its something unrelated to my cards even...since there is a huge $40 difference for both cards, which as time goes the prices will start to drop anyways.

THere seems to be AMD gpus errors with atikmpag.sys popping up now. If you want to risk it go for the R9 270. The GTX 660 is slightly faster than the 750Ti but slower than the R9 270.

Yeah, thats why I'm asking.

I had huge errors with the R7 260x, and I actually bought a R9 270 (failed to get it returned on time...) but am thinking between a GTX 750TI and a GTX 660 right now. The price is $150-160 for the GTX 750 TI from ASUS http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=4... or EVGA's http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=4... (which I have for $155 because I caught the extra rebate deal) or MSI http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item...

OR the GTX 660 which is about $209+ tax then less $20 rebate which comes to about $215 by EVGA http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=4... or there are a couple ZOTAC's for about $199

GTX 660 is faster than the GTX 750Ti. But the 750Ti is not a bad card.

what would be your decision? about $40 dfiference.

Also, when peopel talk about BIOs update, is it the BIOs update specifically for the card? or what? my PC works fine atm, its 12/12/2012 American Megatrends for my M5A97 LE R2.0, should I upgrade my BIO's for the R7 260x? or does that not even help? First I've no idea how to upgrade and I don't want to if there won't be any effect.

Would this problem exist with nVidia?

BIOS relates to your motherboard. If your pc works fine, there is no need to update BIOS.
There seem to be some unknown issues with AMD gpus sometimes not working or driver problem but i guess that is a minority of the population who got AMD gpus.
It should work when you get a new gpu whenever it is AMD or Nvidia, but there is no guarantee it will definitely.
I would probably go for the R9 270 still.

Nothing can beat the price per dollar of 750 ti if you have a weak power supply, but since you've a powerful enough psu, get 660 or even 760.

well im just looking if that $40 is worth the gtx 660 vs gtx 750ti, and im hoping its smaller than 9 inches ish...and how is Zotac?

was the black screen/no loads/freezing/BSOD etc but my AMD HD 6450 XFX has no problems lol

Yes, the extra $40 is worth getting 660. It is that much faster then 750 ti.

zotac or evga? im uncomfortable with the long cards, and evga one is about 9 iunches...zotac is like 6 or 7
